Togfest 2009 - Provides the backdrop for new Channel 4 documentary.
For those of you that were at TF2009 you may be interested to catch the new Channel 4 documentary 'Amish: The world's squarest teenagers' as Togfest 2009 provided the setting, in the second of the four part series, for the immersion of 5 amish teenagers into the British festival scene. The Amish teenagers fresh in from the USA mid west were hosted in their first week in the UK by The Soundcasters who were booked to play on the Courtyard stage on the Saturday afternoon. The programme explores the different cultures and documents how the Amish teenagers deal with living with a band that are preparing for their performance at the Togfest Music Festival and what happens during the weekend camping at the festival.
It should provide an interesting insight. The 4 part series begins on Channel 4 on Sunday 25th July and the second episode which features Togfest will air on Sunday 1st August at 8pm.
Togfest takes a break!
Back on 24th & 25th June 2011
Sadly there will be no festival in 2010. In spite of last year’s most successful Togfest ever, at a meeting on 14th February, reluctantly a hard decision was made to cancel this year’s event.
Bradwell Abbey, the festival site, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument owned by Milton Keynes Council, and last year much needed, long overdue renovations finally began. Since then, a lot more of the site has been fenced off and we now learn that all the building works have been completely stopped for several months while heritage and conservation concerns are addressed.
In spite of the great support from the team at the Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre and their alternative plans, with no date on the horizon for resuming the work, this left the festival with the strong possibility of reaching June and finding huge or impossible challenges in making the festival work.
This year, as usual, there were also other difficulties to overcome, but with all the uncertainties involved, it was decided that efforts would be better put into working towards a terrific and certain festival in 2011. The team does not take a year off but will use the time to work on forward planning
Last year’s festival was, we think, the best ever, thanks to our faithful festival goers and to the excellent Togfest Crew who are dedicated and professional and of whom we are immensely proud.
Good news is that 2009’s festival, in spite of rising costs, no funding and low, accessible ticket prices, made a surplus, which is safely banked and ready for 2011.
